I get asked all the time, “What made you want to open an adult store?”

Well, here’s the Cliff Notes version (do people even use Cliff Notes anymore?!

I was in college and working a full-time job when I decided to supplement my income by doing fun, in-home toy parties. Think Mary Kay or Pampered Chef—but instead of makeup or kitchen gadgets, I was educating people about and selling vibrators and other bedroom accessories.

And something interesting happened at almost every party: I kept hearing the same question from my customers:

“If you had a retail store here in San Antonio, I would shop there!”

They loved the way I presented the products and how comfortable, welcoming, and judgment-free I made the experience. At the time, the adult stores around San Antonio just didn’t have that same feel.

So, naturally, I decided to investigate. 

I visited pretty much every adult store in San Antonio, and I didn’t find that warm, welcoming, friendly shopping experience I was looking for. And that’s when I thought:

“I can do better.”

I wanted to create something completely different—a beautiful, upscale, comfortable shopping experience where people could ask questions, learn, explore, and shop for intimate products without feeling embarrassed or judged.

After doing in-home parties part-time while working a full-time job for more than 10 years, I finally decided to take the leap.

I quit my day job and opened Love Shack Boutique in 2012.

And honestly? It has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Fast-forward to today, and Love Shack Boutique has grown to two locations and an event center, where we host classes, private parties, educational workshops, and all kinds of fun events.

And one of my favorite things about Love Shack is that it truly is a family business.

My niece, Alyssa, is our amazing General Manager, and when my other niece, brother, and sisters come to visit, they often end up getting pulled into the action too—helping with events, filling orders, and whatever else needs to be done.

And then there’s my 83-year-old mom. She still loves helping however she can and is the mastermind behind all of our gift baskets and swag bags for events and parties. I absolutely love that my family has been such a big part of this journey.

A little about me beyond Love Shack:

I’m a certified sex educator through the American College of Sexologists and hold a B.A. from The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA).

I’m also passionate about being involved in my community. I currently serve on the Board of Directors for Planned Parenthood South Texas and am a member of the San Antonio Women’s Chamber of Commerce, Alamo Ranch/151 Business Association, Helotes Area Chamber of Commerce, and National Organization for Women (NOW).

I’m also a co-founder of the women’s networking group Women and Wine on Wednesdays.

When I look back at where Love Shack started, it’s pretty amazing to think that an idea that began with a few in-home parties eventually grew into what it is today.

Alyssa has been working at Love Shack Boutique since 2014. You can say she is a staple member of the Love Shack Boutique. While working at The Shack, Alyssa acquired her degree from Northwest Vista College. Throughout the years, Alyssa has become knowledgeable about adult vibrators, lubricants, lingerie, and other various products in the industry. The best part of her job is the opportunity to be an advocate for sexual health and wellness. Also breaking the stereotypes when it comes to sex. A lot of people may not know what they are looking for, and that’s okay. With the knowledge she has obtained, she navigates customers toward products that align with their sexuality, needs/wants. With her outgoing personality, she will have you smiling ear to ear when it comes to anything in our store. You can call her your local sexual health guru.

Tori was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. She is the newest member of the Love Shack Boutique team. She is currently in college pursuing a degree in Sociology. Eventually Tori would like to become a sex therapist. She loves the vibrant and diverse work environment at Love Shack Boutique. She cannot wait to share advice and educate others about sexual health.

Emerald was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. She is currently studying for her bachelors in music therapy. Emerald has many hobbies like playing guitar, singing, and study dates with friends. One of her favorite things to do is learning about new topics. She hopes she can help guest learn safe and fun ways to have a great experience with themselves or partners. Her favorite part about her job is making new connections with those who are new and those who have been loyal to the company. Emerald can’t wait to continue making new connections and providing a safe space for those visiting.

Dr. Harper is a licensed professional counselor, certified sexologist, certified clinical nutritionist, writer, certified hypnotherapist, and certified YogaFit yoga instructor.

Wow, that makes her sound super-fancy. But she's actually pretty fun to hang out with, and she loves both teaching at The Love Shack Boutique and referring her clients to go shopping there. With so many options for your dollars in this city, why the Love Shack Boutique? Because Amy and her team are completely dedicated to making sure your visit is both comfortable, educational, and freakin' FUN. In all the years she has sent people to the Love Shack Boutique she has never heard ANYTHING other than what an amazing experience they have had. That is some seriously awesome customer service and she is humbled to be part of the team!
